Case Study: Hypertension with Stroke
This case study involves a forty-eight year-old male who suffered a stroke at age 47, causing partial loss of speech and cognitive faculties (would know what he wanted to say but could not say it), loss of left arm use, and hypertension with high blood pressure. Some containment of symptoms was possible with medication.
- Session 1 – at client request conduct blood pressure reading immediately before session and immediately after, with observation of drop in pressure from 143/81 to 125/79
- Session 8 – reports slight improvement in speech and better word-finding capacity
- Session 20 – reports consistently lower BP and increased stamina at PT sessions for recovery of arm use
- Session 30 – reports speech as being “pretty much back to normal”
